Have you run into trouble trying to get your registered symbol to format correctly? Does your title show up as Tom Thompson, CFP(R) instead of Tom Thompson, CFP®?
Including the registered symbol to can easily be done using the “computer code” for the appropriate symbol. When in the field where you wish to enter the symbol, simply hold down the Alt key on your keyboard and type the numbers 0174 using the number pad. This will insert a registered symbol (®) where the cursor is positioned.
This process can also be used to enter other common symbols:
Copyright symbol (©) – hold alt and type 0169
Trademark symbol (™) – hold alt and type 0153
Additionally, there is a utility that comes with every installation of Windows known as the Character Map (charmap.exe). To use this, simply click on the Start button, select Run, and type in charmap. You will have the option of selecting your font, size and any symbols that are available in that font. Copy the symbol from Charmap using the Select button, then paste into the desired location.
