The process of updating the desktop edition of your financial planning software is designed to be quick and easy. Frequently asked questions and answers relating to the update process are included below.
Do I need any information like my license key to update my software?
You do not need to provide any information. The program will retain your licensing information.
Do I need to worry about losing anything when I update?
Your program settings, custom reports, and client files will remain intact. You will not lose anything during the update process.
Do I need to close the program before updating to the latest version?
Make sure the program is closed prior to starting the installation of the updated version. If you get a message “Files in Use” during the installation, the program is still open. Close the program and then click “Try Again”. This will save you from needing to re-boot your computer after the installation is complete.
Do I need to restart my computer after updating to the latest version?
As long as you had the program closed when updating, you will not need to restart. If the program was open while updating, a restart may be required.
How can I be sure I am running the latest version after I updated?
You can confirm you are running the latest version by going to Help and About to check the version number. The version number is listed on the download page for the software (Silver and TOTAL) and included in update notification emails, news articles, and the blog.
I installed the latest version, now I am getting an error when generating reports. Did something go wrong?
The program likely just needs to be closed and re-opened. If you open the program after completing the update installation and receive a “Report Generation Error” when running the reports, simply close and re-open the program to resolve the error.
I had a desktop shortcut for the program, but now it's not working. What should I do?
If your desktop shortcut no longer opens the program or gives you a “The parameter is incorrect” message, rebooting your computer should clear up the issue.
If that still does not resolve the problem, you can create a new shortcut by going to your Start menu and select "All Programs". Find the Money Tree program on the list and right click on it. Select “Send To” -> “Desktop (create shortcut)”.
